CYCLONES WINTER HAT NIGHT
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After an exhilarating end to their four-game road trip, the Cyclones are finally back home tonight to welcome in the Reading Royals to U.S. Bank Arena. Cincinnati has won both of their 2013-14 meetings with their long-time non-division foes and now own a 33-19-5-4 record against Reading since 2006. So far in the season series, Ben Simon's team has outscored their Pennsylvania state foes by a 7-1 margin.
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: THROWBACK NIGHT / TEDDY BEAR TOSS - We dial back the clock with $8 tickets, $1 hot dogs, pizza, soda, and beer!! Plus, the Cyclones will be wearing specialty jerseys featuring the old "Cincinnati Swords!" And, when the Cyclones score their first goal, fans are encouraged to throw a new or gently-loved teddy bear on the ice to benefit the Cincinnati Police Department!
SCOUTING THE ROYALS: Larry Courville's club dropped a 5-3 decision to the Toledo Walleye last night to open their brief weekend swing through the North Division. Yannick Tifu, who has seven points in his last three games, leads the defending Kelly Cup Champions, posting 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists) in 27 outings. T.J. Syner remains toward the top as well, ranking second on the Royals active leaderboard with 18 tallies in 21 contests. Brandon Anderson returned last night after nearly a month in the American Hockey League and turned in a 26 save performance against the Walleye in the defeat. Overall this season, he is 4-5-1 with an 3.10 goals-against average. He is expected to make his first appearance against the Cyclones this season.
Closer Clones: Cincinnati has been nearly impossible to beat when leading after 40 minutes of play this season. They've amassed a 13-0-1 record in such situations, which gives them the third most victories in this category of any ECHL team.
Quite a Handful: The Cyclones strung together four straight games with five goals or more from December 20-28. It was the first time since January of the 2008-09 season that the team has accomplished this feat. That year, the Clones had 5+ goals in five consecutive contests.
Plenty of Weapons: Unlike many of their recent opponents, the Cyclones have found offense from many different sources. All but one player on the active roster have notched at least a point. In fact, 13 players on the active roster have earned multi-point games.
