WORCESTER, MA - Enmanuel Valdez finished a single shy of the cycle, and Bryan Mata tossed six sterling innings as the Worcester Red Sox (67-62) beat the Buffalo Bisons (66-62) by a 5-2 final on Sunday afternoon at Polar Park to secure their second-straight series win.

Valdez drove in four of Worcester's five runs. Over his last seven games, Valdez is 12-for-29 with 8 extra-base hits and 11 runs batted in.

In his second Triple-A start, Mata picked up his first Triple-A win. The right-hander allowed two runs on four hits, walked three and struck out five. Mata threw a season-high 100 pitches, the third time this season that a WooSox pitcher has thrown at least 100 pitches.

Both runs Mata allowed came in the first inning. Rafael Lantigua doubled in a run, and L.J. Talley drove in a run on a fielder's choice.

It remained a 2-0 game until Abraham Almonte led off the fourth inning with a walk. One batter later, Valdez drove in Almonte with a double to the left-center field gap. After stealing third base, Valdez scored on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Fitzgerald to tie the game.

The WooSox took the lead in the sixth inning. Almonte drew another leadoff walk, and Valdez tripled him in to put Worcester on top 3-2.

After another walk to Almonte in the eighth, Valdez lined a 401-foot home run over the Worcester Wall to make it a 5-2 game.

Almonte extended his on-base streak to 19 games. He reached safely in all four of his plate appearances, going 1-for-1 with a single and three walks. It was the second game in a row he walked three times.

The WooSox begin a two-week road trip tomorrow when they open up a six-game series with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Coca-Cola Park. Connor Seabold is the scheduled starter for Worcester. Radio coverage begins at 4:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the rest of the WooSox Radio Network.
