Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of the six-game series against the Durham Bulls by a score of 7-5 on Sunday night from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte.
LHP John Parke started for the Knights and allowed four runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings pitched. Parke, who did not factor in the decision, struck-out six batters on the night. Parke leads the Knights in games started, innings pitched and strikeouts this season.
Down by a score of 2-0, the Knights added a run in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a solo home run from catcher Nick Ciuffo. The home run was his third of the season and it brought the Knights to within one run, down 2-1. Two innings later, center fielder Craig Dedelow launched his second homer of the season, a solo shot to tie the game at 2-2.
In a back-and-forth game, the Bulls took a 4-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning with help from Tristan Gray and Grant Witherspoon. Both Durham players connected on RBI singles in the sixth inning. The Knights battled back to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-run single by Zach Remillard.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Bulls took one more lead over the Knights. This time, it was a lead the team would not relinquish. Jim Haley hit an RBI double and Xavier Edwards came through with a two-run single to make it a 7-4 ballgame.
One inning later, the Knights tacked on one final run on an RBI groundout by D.J. Burt in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Charlotte finished the series 1-5 against Durham. The two teams will meet one more time this season at Truist Field in a three-game series from September 26-28.
The Knights will now have an off day on Monday before opening up a six-game home series against the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A affiliate of the Miwaukee Brewers) on Tuesday from Truist Field. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 6:35 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
