Memphis Redbirds News Release
NASHVILLE, TN - The Memphis Redbirds lost the series finale 12-4 to the Nashville Sounds on Sunday afternoon at First Horizon Park.
In the opening frame, Alec Burleson and Moises Gomez hit back-to-back RBI doubles to give Memphis an early 2-0 lead, but it was erased on a two-run single from Mario Feliciano in the bottom of the inning.
Memphis again took the lead in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI single from Clint Coulter, but things unraveled for Matthew Liberatore in the fifth.
After retiring 10 straight batters, Liberatore (5-7) surrendered a two-out, bases loaded walk to tie the game. Feliciano then crushed a grand slam to knock the pitcher out of the ballgame. In the loss, Liberatore allowed seven runs on five hits, walked three and struck out three in 4.2 innings.
After Liberatore was pulled, Pedro Severino hit a home run against Grant Black to make it 8-3. Black struggled in the sixth inning, walking three batters, including one with the bases loaded. An error brought two more runs across. Jon Singleton added the 12th run with a solo home run in the eighth inning.
The Memphis Redbirds (64-64) return to AutoZone Park on Tuesday, September 6 for a seven-game series against the Norfolk Tides. For tickets and more information, visit memphisredbirds.com.
