
Valadez Named All-Star, Boomers Now with Three on West Squad

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - With the addition of catcher Michael Valadez to the Frontier League West Division All-Star Team, the defending champion Schaumburg Boomers will have three representatives at the mid-summer classic, it was announced today.
Valadez, 28, will make his second consecutive trip to the mid-summer classic as a member of the Boomers. Widely regarded as one of, if not the premier defensive catcher in the Frontier League, Valadez leads the league in assists among catchers with 31, including 25% of would-be base stealers having thrown out 17 out of 68 runners. At the plate in 2014, the California native has collected 24 hits in 35 games with seven runs scored and 13 run batted in.
Valadez joins teammates Justin Vasquez (starting outfielder) and Jordan Dean (reserve infielder) in representing the 2013 Champion Schaumburg Boomers at the 2014 Frontier League All-Star game on Wednesday, July 16 in Sauget, Ill. at GCS Ballpark, the home of the Gateway Grizzlies at 7:05 p.m. Including Vasquez, Dean and Valadez, the Boomers have sent a total of 18 representatives to the annual mid-season classic over the past three years.
Beginning on Friday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. with Star Wars Night and FIREWORKS presented by COUNTRY Financial and 104.3 K-HiTS, the Boomers have one final home series before the break as the Joliet Slammers invade Schaumburg this weekend. The fun continues with a Jimmy Buffett Night doubleheader at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 with post-game fireworks presented by COUNTRY Financial and 104.3 K-HiTS, and the weekend concludes with Family Sunday and I Love Prairie Chickens Day at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 13.
