Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Josh Allen singled home Phillip Wilson in the last of the 10th inning, providing the Evansville Otters with a 3-2 walk-off win over the Traverse City Beach Bums on Thursday night at Bosse Field. Set up as a great pitcher's duel, both starting pitchers delivered with phenomenal outings. All-Star Casey Delgado started for the Beach Bums and posted his sixth consecutive quality start, completing seven innings. The only blemish for Delgado was a two-run homer from Shayne Houck in the last of third inning that gave Evansville a 2-0 lead. Delgado allowed just the two runs on five hits in seven innings with eight strikeouts while settling for a no-decision.

Evansville's Preston Olson was given the 2-0 lead but gave up runs in back-to-back innings, allowing the Beach Bums to tie the game. In the fourth, Jovan Rosa singled home Sean Gusrang to make it 2-1, and an inning later, Greg Harisis drove home Rob Benedict with an RBI single to knot the game at two. Olson lasted seven innings as well, yielding two runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

Neither team threatened after the fifth inning until the last of the ninth when Evansville put two in scoring position with two outs, but Chuck Ghysels got Kolin Conner to pop out to force extras.

In the tenth, Jake Rhodes led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second, but would get no further. Evan Mott (3-0) picked up the win by getting the final out of the frame.

Wilson led off the last of the tenth with a double over the third base bag against Nate O'Bryan (1-2). After a strikeout, Allen lined a ball to right field that scored Wilson with the winning run.

Traverse City now returns home for the final series before the All-Star Break with the opening of a three-game set against the Normal CornBelters on Friday night at 7:05. Ian MacDougall (2-2, 4.79) starts for the Beach Bums against the CornBelters' Matt Packer (0-0, 0.00). It's a FANtastic Fireworks Friday at Wuerfel Park with fireworks following the game. Fans unable to attend can listen to the broadcast starting at 6:45 p.m. on Classic Rock the Bear 98.1/107.1 and classicrockthebear.com.
