Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - The Evansville Otters (28-18) are back in first place after a 3-2, 10 inning win over the Traverse City Beach Bums on Thursday night.

With a Washington loss and an Evansville win, the Otters are in first place of the Frontier League East Division for the first time since May 29.

Evansville also won the series (two games to one) in front of 5,927 fans on Budweiser Military Appreciation night on Thursday at Bosse Field.

Evansville took a lead in the third when outfielder John Schultz reached on a single and All-Star infielder Shayne Houck hit a two-run home run to left field. It was his team-high 10th home run of the season, pushed the Otters ahead 2-0.

Down by a pair of runs, Traverse City scored a run in the fourth inning on a double play and evened up the score with a Greg Harisis RBI single in the fifth.

The game stayed a 2-2 duel until the late innings thanks in part to both starting pitchers. Evansville's Preston Olson went 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He retired seven of the last eight batters he faced. Traverse City's Casey Delgado set down the last nine batters he threw against, totaling 7.0 innings and also yielding two runs on five hits.

Relievers Anthony Collazo pitched 2.2 hitless innings to keep a 2-2 game into the 10th where teammate Evan Mott (3-0) stranded a runner at second.

The Otters got a leadoff double from Phillip Wilson to lead-off the bottom of the 10th. He scored on Allen's walk-off RBI single to right field to win the game for Evansville.

The Otters continue their six-game homestand with the beginning of a three-game weekend series against the Lake Erie Crushers on Friday night at Bosse Field. Right-hander Trevor Walch (1-0, 3.00 ERA) will be on the mound for Evansville against Crushers righty Zac Treece (2-1, 1.76 ERA). Fans wishing to purchase tickets can do so by calling 812-435-8686.
