Schaumburg Boomers News Release
O'FALLON, Mo. - The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, dropped a 5-4 decision to the River City Rascals on a walk off Thursday night.
Brian McConkey nailed a two run homer in the top of the second to hand the Boomers an early lead. Schaumburg did not trail in the contest until the final run came across. River City homered in the bottom of the second against starting pitcher Eddie Cody to pull within 2-1. Cody worked six innings and allowed just three runs but did not factor in the decision. Tyler Sciacca's RBI double extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth. Sciacca finished with three hits in the game. Another River City homer tied the game in the fifth. Justin Vasquez scored on a passed ball to give the Boomers another advantage before River City scored in the eighth and ninth to end the contest.
The Boomers return home for Star Wars Night on Friday as the Joliet Slammers visit Boomers Stadium. LHP Hunter Ackerman (1-0, 2.43) starts for Schaumburg opposite LHP Blair Walters (1-4, 2.66) in the 6:30 p.m. contest. The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
