
Aviators Fall to Grizzlies 14-9

LOVES PARK, IL- The Rockford Aviators (21-25) presented by Pearson, fell to the Gateway Grizzlies (33-16) in a high scoring affair, 14-9.
Cole Green got the start for the Aviators. His night ended after just facing two batters when a ball ball hit him in his throwing shoulder off the bat of Madison Beaird. The Grizzlies scored six runs on five hits to give them a 6-0 advantage after the first inning.
The Grizzlies added insult to injury in the second inning. Michael Wing hit a grand slam and T.J. Bennett followed with a solo shot of his own which increased the Grizzlies lead to 11-0.
The Aviators were not going to go down without a fight. In the bottom of the second the Aviators put six runs of their own on the board. The Aviators runs were highlighted by Kalaika Kahoohalahala who hit a 2-run double and Edgar Corcino who hit a 2-run single. The six-run hitting cut the Grizzlies lead to 11-6.
The Grizzlies scored again the fourth inning when Ben Waldrip grounded out but brought in a run to increase the Grizzlies lead to 12-6. The Aviators added a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning which made the score 12-7.
The Grizzlies continued to show off their bats in the seventh inning. A pair of RBI doubles increased their lead to 14-7.
The Aviators tried to rally back in the ninth. Brian Bistagne hit a infield single that scored a run. Kahoohalahala followed up with RBI single of his own. That was the final run scored in the game as the Aviators lost 14-9.
The Aviators will start their series with the Frontier Greys tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. Fans will want to come out to the ball park for the double header that will be followed by the best FIREWORKS show in Rockford!
