Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Greg Harisis blasted a solo homer as part of two-hit evening in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Bosse Field, leading the Traverse City Beach Bums to a 4-3 win over the Evansville Otters in game two on Wednesday. The Otters took game one 10-0.
Harisis led off the second game with a bunt single, stole second base and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Yazy Arbelo. The Beach Bums doubled the lead in the fourth inning when Jake Rhodes doubled home Josh Miller to make it 2-0.
After Evansville cut into the lead in the last of the fourth, Harisis led off the fifth with a smoked solo shot to up the lead to 3-1. It was Harisis' third homer of the year. The Otters got a run in the last of the fifth and had two on and two out, but Will Rankin came on to get the final out of the frame, limiting the damage.
Traverse City bounced back in the top of the sixth with another tally. Rhodes led off with a double, was sacrificed to third and scored on a suicide squeeze by Rob Benedict to make it 4-2 TC. Chris Sweeney homered to again cut the lead to one at 4-3, but that was as close as the Otters would get in game two as All-Star D.J. Johnson struck out the side in the seventh to pick up 12th save of the year.
Rankin (3-2) got the win by allowing a run in 1.1 innings of relief of starter Tanner Tripp, who yielded two runs (one earned) in 4.2 innings. Taylor Dennis (0-1) took the loss for the Otters, giving up all four runs in 5.2 innings.
In the first game, Chad James was filthy for Evansville, tossing a complete game no-hitter with 14 strikeouts. James (4-2) walked just four batters as the only blemishes in his outing, which constituted the first no-hitter in Otters history.
The offense provided plenty of support, scoring five runs in the first inning on homers from Shayne Houck and Sweeney. Evansville tacked on three more runs in the second and a pair on a Josh Allen homer in the fifth to account for the 10-0 score. Alex Phillips (0-5) took the loss for the Beach Bums by allowing the five runs in the first inning.
The Beach Bums and Otters finish up their three-game series with a rubber game on Thursday at 7:35 ET. All-Star Casey Delgado (5-2, 2.36) gets the ball for Traverse City against Evansville's Preston Olson (3-3, 2.92). Fans can listen to the broadcast starting at 7:15 p.m. on Classic Rock the Bear 98.1/107.1 and classicrockthebear.com.
