Worcester Red Sox News Release
BUFFALO, NY - Triston Casas launched the first pitch he saw over the left-center field fence, and Abraham Almonte added an eighth-inning grand slam, but the Worcester Red Sox took a 7-6 loss to the Buffalo Bisons on Friday night.
The solo home run from Casas was his first for the WooSox since returning from the injured list on July 22. After an 0-for-9 start in his first two games, the 26th overall pick in the 2018 draft now has five hits including a double, a homer, and two walks over his last five games.
Buffalo responded with seven unanswered runs, highlighted by two home runs from Otto Lopez, including an inside-the-parker in the second inning.
Bisons starter Thomas Hatch held the WooSox to one run on five hits over seven innings, but Worcester cut the 7-1 deficit to 7-6 with a five-run rally in the top of the eighth inning.
A single and two walks loaded the bases for Abraham Almonte, who crushed a 3-1 pitch over the right field fence for a grand slam to make it 7-5. Two batters later, Cam Cannon hit an RBI double - his first extra-base hit in Triple-A - to bring Worcester within a run.
Cannon and Almonte each recorded two-hit nights, while Pedro Castellanos extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
Darwinzon Hernandez tossed a 1-2-3 seventh inning, striking out two batters and finding the strike zone with nine of his 12 pitches.
The series continues in Buffalo on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. at Sahlen Field, with Connor Seabold scheduled to start for Worcester. The team returns to Polar Park for a six-game series against the Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay Rays) starting on Tuesday. Tickets are available now at WooSox.com/tickets.
