Redbirds Get Back to Winning Ways With Shutout Over Tides

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds shut out the Norfolk Tides in game four of a six-game series at AutoZone Park on Friday night by the final score of 6-0.

Memphis starting pitcher Jake Woodford dominated in his best outing of the season on Friday night. The right-handed pitcher tossed 6.0 shutout innings, allowed two hits and struck out five batters without walking one. The win marked Woodford's second of the season at Triple-A.

Offensively, the Redbirds mustered four of its five runs in the bottom of the third inning, brining eight batters to the plate. First baseman Luken Baker came through with the biggest hit of the night, an RBI double with two outs in the innings.

Center fielder Ben DeLuzio also had a solid night at the plate, extending his hitting streak to 12 games and recorded a pair of RBIs. Left fielder Matt Koperniak made his first career Triple-A start, reaching base all four times he stepped to the plate, including a 2-for-2 performance with a run scored.

The Memphis bullpen closed out the game in shutout fashion. Veterans Kyle Ryan, who tossed 2.0 innings without allowing a base runner, and Zach McAllister closed out the win.

The Memphis Redbirds (53-44) return to AutoZone Park on Saturday night against the Norfolk Tides (46-51), Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles for a scheduled 6:35 p.m. CDT first pitch.
