St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - The Minnesota Twins signed an experienced playoff pitcher, one that has nearly 200 games of Major League experience both as a starter and reliever. Right-handed pitcher Brad Peacock, who was dominant with the Omaha Storm Chasers (Kansas City Royals) this season, has been assigned to the St. Paul Saints upon signing a Minor League deal with the Twins.
The 34-year-old Peacock was released by the Royals organization on July 17 after going 2-1 with a 1.64 ERA and seven saves in 35 relief appearances. In 38.1 innings pitched he walked 16 and struck out 45 while opponents hit .229 against him. He is sixth in the International League in games pitched and tied for eighth in saves.
Peacock was a 41st round pick by the Washington Nationals in 2006 out of Palm Beach Central (FL) HS. He is 34-31 with a 4.11 ERA and three saves in 183 Major League games (84 starts). In 560.0 innings pitched, Peacock has walked 241 and struck out 590 while opponents hit .232 against him.
In the Houston Astros World Series season of 2017, Peacock pitched in seven games, one in the ALDS, two in the ALCS, and four in the World Series. He earned the save in Game 3 of the World Series by tossing 3.2 hitless, scoreless innings of relief. It was the longest hitless World Series relief outing since Ron Taylor tossed 4.0 hitless innings for the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the 1964 World Series. It also tied Ken Clay in the 1978 ALCS for the longest hitless postseason save.
Peacock spent from 2007-11 with the Washington Nationals organization before being traded to the Oakland Athletics along with left-handed pitcher Tommy Milone, catcher Derek Norris, and right-handed pitcher A.J. Cole in exchange for left-handed pitcher Gio González and right-handed pitcher Robert Gilliam on December 23, 2011.
Following the 2012 season, Peacock was traded again to the Astros along with catcher Max Stassi and first baseman Chris Carter in exchange for infielder Jed Lowrie and right-handed pitcher Francisco Rodriguez.
Peacock pitched for the Astros until 2019 and then was signed as a free agent by Cleveland in 2021. On August 30, 2021, Cleveland traded him to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations.
The Minnesota Twins made two subsequent moves, releasing right-handed pitchers Wladimir Pinto and Jake Petricka. Pinto was 3-4 with a 2.08 ERA in 25 games while Petricka was 0-1 with a 4.18 ERA in 21 games.
The Saints roster stands at 32, one shy of the league maximum, 17 pitchers and 15 position players with three players on the injured list.
