Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Red Wings' contest against Scranton was suspended in the third inning of Thursday's game on account of weather and was resumed with Rochester up 2-1 in the first contest of a doubleheader on Friday. The Wings fell 8-6 in game one after leading by five runs in the seventh inning.

RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon made his Red Wings debut in Thursday's contest, holding Scranton to three hits and one run across three innings before the game was postponed. The recent Nationals signee logged six strikeouts in just three innings, good for the most by any Wings starter in a debut this season.

A second-inning homer from 3B Jake Alu and a sacrifice fly from C Chris Herrmann gave Rochester an early 2-1 lead on Thursday before the postponement. The Wings added three more in the third on Friday off an RBI triple from LF Josh Palacios, an RBI single from SS Ildemaro Vargas, and a homer from 1B Riley Adams, his second of the season.

On a rehab assignment from the Nationals, RHP Reed Garrett took the mound first on Friday, registering one walk and one strikeout in an inning of work.

DH Joey Meneses logged a seventh-inning sacrifice fly that scored 2B Adrian Sanchez, as Rochester took a 6-1 lead.

The RailRiders came roaring back with a seven-run eighth inning as RHP Patrick Murphy and RHP Mason Thompson allowed five and two runs, respectively.

Rochester was unable to rally, failing to capitalize on a five-run lead in game one.

Despite a late rally, Rochester drops the second half of tonight's twin bill 10-9 in seven innings. This marks their season-long ninth consecutive loss, and with four straight losses to begin this six-game set, the Wings have now failed to record a series victory since June 4 (seven series).

Scranton opened the scoring in the top half of the first when LF Miguel Andujar connected on a double that plated DH Ben Rortvedt. The Yankees top affiliate would add four more in the third and one in the fourth, including back-to-back homers from Andujar and RF Phil Evans to make the score 6-0.

Rochester would connect on back-to-back homers of their own in the fourth to get on the board, coming off the bat of DH Riley Adams (3) and 2B Jake Noll (8) to cut the lead to 6-2. The RailRiders answered right back in the top of the fifth, adding four more runs to swell the lead to eight.

The Wings would slug themselves back into the game, as 3B Jecksson Flores (2) drove the Wings third solo shot of the night in the fifth. Four more runs in the sixth would make the score 10-7 going into the final frame.

After C Riley Adams reached base to begin the bottom half of the seventh, Jake Noll crushed his second homer of the night (9) to cut the lead to just one with no outs. The next three batters were retired in order, and the rally falls just short with a final score of 10-9.

LHP Josh Rogers took the ball to start the game for the Wings, working 3.2 innings and allowing six earned before being relieved. RHP Sterling Sharp (0.2 IP, 4 ER), LHP Matt Cronin (1.2 IP, 0 ER), and RHP Jefry Rodriguez (1.0 IP, 0 ER) would cover the remaining 3.1 innings for Rochester.

Rochester will look to avoid dropping the first five games of the series and their 10th straight contest tomorrow night. RHP Cory Abbott is scheduled to toe the rubber against Scranton right-hander Jhony Brito. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
