Late Rally Pushes Jacksonville to 6-3 Win over Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Brian Miller's three-run triple in the eighth inning completed the late comeback in the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp's 6-3 win over the Gwinnett Stripers Friday night at Coolray Field.

The Jumbo Shrimp (53-43) trailed for most of the game before flipping the script in the top of the eighth inning. Bryson Brigman led off with a single against Gwinnett (46-51) reliever Seth Elledge (L, 1-4). Santiago Chavez reached on an error and Demetrius Sims also reached on a fielder's choice error that loaded the bases. Miller swatted a bases-clearing triple and Jacksonville jumped ahead 4-3. During the at-bat of Peyton Burdick, Miller scored from third on a wild pitch, pushing the lead to 5-3.

Jacksonville added a run in the top of the ninth. Norel González led off the inning with a double and scored two batters later with a single from Chavez to increase the lead to 6-3.

The Jumbo Shrimp took the early lead in the top of the first. Miller (4) led off the game with a solo home run.

Gwinnett tied the game in the bottom of the second. Ryan Casteel (10) launched a solo home run to start the inning.

The Stripers took their first lead in the series in the top of the third. Preston Tucker (8) blasted the second home run for Gwinnett, putting them out in front 2-1.

Gwinnett added to their lead in the bottom of the third. Ryan Goins led off with a single and went to second on a sacrifice by Delino DeShields Jr. In the following at-bat, Tucker flew out to right but Goins was able to score from third as the Stripers took a 3-1 lead.

Jacksonville got a great effort from their bullpen. Colton Hock (W, 1-0) pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings in his Jacksonville debut with four strikeouts. Andrew Nardi (S, 5) wrapped up the game with three strikeouts in 1.2 scoreless innings.

Jacksonville continues their series with the Gwinnett Stripers Saturday at 6:05 p.m. RHP Cody Mincey (0-0, 0.00) makes his Jacksonville debut tomorrow and Gwinnett will turn to RHP Bryce Elder (5-4, 4.76) Coverage begins at 5:50 p.m. on ESPN 690 and ESPN690.com.
