Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Toronto Blue Jays today announced that Jeff Ware has been named interim manager of the Buffalo Bisons for the remainder of the 2022 season. He becomes the 23rd manager in the club's modern era.
Ware began the year in his second season as the Bisons pitching coach and was promoted to interim manager on July 13 when Casey Candaele was announced as the Blue Jays interim bench coach for the rest of the 2022 campaign. The Herd has gone 7-4 under Ware since his interim promotion, including 3-3 since the All-Star Break.
The 2022 season is Ware's eighth in the Toronto Blue Jays' organization. In 2021 as Bisons pitching coach, he helped guide the pitching staff to the second-best overall earned run average in Triple-A baseball with a 3.46 mark. The team's 2.83 bullpen ERA was the best of all 30 teams in Triple-A.
The team's success on the mound was a key factor in finishing the season 79-47 and claiming a Northeast Division championship.
Ware has coached in the Blue Jays organization since 2014, serving as the Minor League Pitching Coordinator from 2017-2019. He was selected by Toronto in the first round, 35th overall, in the 1991 draft. His Major League debut came in 1995 with the Blue Jays, appearing in 18 games between the 1995 and 1996 seasons. He also pitched in parts of three Triple-A seasons for Syracuse, going 7-0 for the Chiefs in 1995.
