
Trent Hunter Named To AHL Canadian All-Star Team

BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced the selection of Right Wing Trent Hunter to the Canadian Team for next month's 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic. The team, comprised of players born in Canada, includes 21 skaters and three goaltenders. AHL fans determined the starting lineup via on-line balloting at www.theahl.com while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the roster. Hunter will join teammate Rick DiPietro, whose selection to play for the PlanetUSA team was announced yesterday, at next month's mid-season showcase.
Hunter, 22, was the sixth pick, 150th overall, of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the 1998 NHL draft. The Red Deer, Alberta native currently leads the Sound Tigers in scoring with 15 goals, six power-play goals, 18 assists and 33 points and is tied for the team lead with four game-winning goals in 34 games this season. He has also appeared in two games with the Islanders this season. Last year, Hunter appeared in all 80 regular-season games notching a team-leading 30 goals and 65 points along with 35 assists, as well as eight goals, 11 assists and 19 points in 17 playoff games during the Sound Tigers' march to the Calder Cup Finals. He also scored one goal and assisted on another for two points in four Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Islanders last spring.
The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine and will be hosted by the Portland Pirates. The event begins Sunday, February 2nd with the Pepsi All-Star Skills Competition at 8 p.m. The All-Star Game will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, February 3rd and will be televised live in the United States and Canada.
The Sound Tigers will host the Hershey Bears tonight at 7:35 p.m. and the Hartford Wolf Pack tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. during "Pride In America Weekend". All Sound Tigers' games are broadcast live on "The ZONE" FOX Sports Radio 1300 and at www.soundtigers.com. WSTC/WNLK 1400/1350 also broadcasts road games.
