
Roest Boosts Griffins Power Play in 4-3 Win

CHICAGO, IL - The Grand Rapids Griffins (21-9-4-2) used two power play goals from Stacy Roest and two assists apiece from Michel Picard and Travis Richards to defeat the Chicago Wolves (16-15-1-2) by a 4-3 score on Friday night at Allstate Arena. The win boosts the Griffins' road record to 11-2-1-2 this season.
Team Canada All-Star Marc Lamothe (15-8-4) made 34 saves to earn the win. Dallas Eakins put the Wolves on the board 0:49 into the first period with a blast from the point through a screen. Mark Hartigan won the faceoff to Kurtis Foster who tipped it to Eakins at the point for assists.
Ryan Barnes answered for the Griffins with a goal 43 seconds later when he took a drop-pass from Hugo Boisvert and banged his own rebound into the net knotting the score at one. Rob Collins also earned an assist on the play.
Roest's first power play tally came 8:15 into the opening frame when he banged a shot that trickled through Wolves goaltender Norm Maracle's pads for a 2-1 lead. Richards and Picard earned assists.
Chicago evened the score at 2-2 when Mark Hartigan tucked a shot under the crossbar at 17:42 of the first period. Simon Gamache and Steve Maltais assisted on the play.
The Wolves regained the lead at 3-2 with a power play marker by Maltais 7:21 into the second period. The assists went to Rob Brown and Gamache.
The Griffins tied the score at 3-3 at 10:01 of the second period when PlanetUSA All-Star Mark Mowers capped a well-executed three-on-two breakaway with Picard and Nathan Robinson earning assists. Picard sent a pass across the crease that Mowers tapped inside the left post with a backhand.
Roest notched his the game-winning goal with a power play blast through Maracle's pads 1:11 into the third period. Richards earned his second assist on the goal.
The Griffins will take on the Milwaukee Admirals Saturday afternoon at 3:12 p.m.
