
Ron Wilson Named New Head Coach

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames Vice-President & General Manager Craig Button announced today the appointment of Ron Wilson as Head Coach of Saint John of the American Hockey League.
"The development of our players is key to our success," said Button. "Ron Wilson has a very good knowledge of our players an we believe he will do an excellent job. We will do everything to ensure that out presence in Saint John under Ron Wilson's guidance continues to be very strong."
Wilson joined the Saint John coaching staff as an assistant coach on August 28, 2000 and, along with Head Coach Jim Playfair, helped lead the team to a Calder Cup Championship in his first season with the club. Since joining Saint John the team has posted an 83-77-22-10 record.
Prior to joining Saint John, Wilson spent the previous four seasons with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL as an assistant coach. During his tenure the Falcons posted a 154-125-39 record (with 6 OT losses). Prior to joining the Falcons, Wilson served as a player / assistant coach with Wheeling of the East Coast Hockey League during the 1995-96 season. Wilson also served as player / assistant coach with Moncton of the AHL from 1988-90 for Head Coach Rick Bowness.
The native of Toronto, ON played in 14 seasons in the NHL and 20 seasons of professional hockey. In 832 NHL career games with Winnipeg, St. Louis and Montreal, Wilson collected 326 points (110 goals, 216 assists) and 415 penalty minutes. Wilson was Montreal's seventh choice, 133rd overall, in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft.
