January 3, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany River Rats News Release
Albany N.Y. â The American Hockey League announced today that Albany River Rat defenseman Raymond Giroux has been selected by the fans as a starter for the Canadian AHL All-Stars at the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic, to be played on February 3, 2003 at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine.
Giroux, 26, will be making his second consecutive trip and third overall appearance (2000) at the AHL All-Star Classic. He ranks fifth among league defensemen with 24 (7-17) points in 36 games played, and tops all River Rat rearguards with those totals. The North Bay, Ontario native completed the 2001-02 campaign fourth among AHL defenders with 40 assists and fifth with 53 points as a member of the Eastern Conference champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Originally selected by the Philadelphia Flyers as their seventh choice (202ND overall) in the 1994 National Hockey League Entry Draft, he signed with the New Jersey Devils as a free agent on July 12, 2002.
The Albany River Rats conclude the weekend with a two-game road trip beginning against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Albany will face-off against the Hartford Wolf*Pack on Sunday afternoon at 4:05pm and fans can hear both games broadcast on 102.3 KISS FM.
