Haydar Named All-Star Starter

Rookie left wing Darren Haydar has been honored as one of the starters on the American Hockey League's Canadian All-Star Team for the AHL's All-Star Classic in Portland, Maine on February 3rd. Haydar was named a starter through fan balloting on the AHL's website (www.theahl.com).

The Admirals leading scorer is tied for third among all scorers in the league with 38 points (14g-24a). He is tied for first among AHL Rookies in scoring and leads all rookies with a +17.

The former University of New Hampshire Wildcat has scored at least one point in 22 of 30 games played this season and leads the team with 11 multiple-point games. His high scoring game of the season was Saturday at Grand Rapids when he registered four assists in a 6-1 win over Grand Rapids.

The Nashville Predator's ninth round selection in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft made his NHL debut against the Chicago Blackhawks November 17th and saw action with the Predators earlier this month. At UNH, Haydar was named the hockey team's MVP and was the school's Male Athlete of the Year following his senior season.

The all-star team, comprised of players born in Canada, includes 21 skaters and three goaltenders. AHL fans determined the starting lineup via on-line balloting at theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the roster. The Canadian All-Stars will take on the PlanetUSA team that includes of players from the United States and Europe.

The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic gets underway on Sunday, February 2, with the 2003 Pepsi AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 8:00 p.m. ET. The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. ET on Monday, February 3.
