Westcott To Play On Canadian AHL All-Star Team

Syracuse, NY (January 3, 2003) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the American Hockey League has selected defenseman Duvie Westcott to the Canadian AHL All-Star Team for the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic.

Prior to being recalled by Columbus on December 3, Westcott, 25, appeared in 18 games with Syracuse this season, recording one goal, 10 assists and 52 penalty minutes. In 14 games with Columbus this season, Westcott has recorded four assists and 34 penalty minutes.

Last season Westcott appeared in 68 games with Syracuse, recording four goals, 29 assists and 99 penalty minutes. He appeared in four games with the Blue Jackets last season without recording a point and made his NHL debut March 16 vs. Calgary. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Westcott was signed as a free agent by Columbus on May 7, 2001.

Of the 262 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 92 percent have competed in the NHL, including 12 of the Crunch's 14 representatives.

The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will be held February 2 and 3 at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine. The 2003 Pepsi AHL All-Star Skills Competition takes place Sunday, February 2 at 8:00 p.m. EST. The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. EST Monday, February 3 and will be televised live in the United States and Canada.
