Flames Present Annual Team Awards

SAINT JOHN, NB – Flames defenceman Rick Mrozik and center Jason Morgan were the standouts as the Saint John Flames handed out the tenth edition of their annual player awards prior to this evening's contest at Harbour Station.

Mrozik, a six year pro, posted a team leading high plus/minus rating of +9 to capture the Bank of Nova Scotia Plus/Minus award and was also recognized for his contributions by his teammates who voted him this season's Aliant Top Defenceman. Mrozik, currently on recall to Calgary, was also awarded the American Specialty/HG Insurance Services AHL Man of the Year award for Saint John.

Morgan was the other dual award winner on the night. He was awarded the Delta Brunswick Most Valuable Player award, as voted by his teammates, and the Ignitors' Booster Club Award of Excellence.

The other award recipients included Matt Lombardi, voted as the Baxter Foods Rookie of the Year, Jayme Filipowicz, voted as the teams Unsung Hero and Mike Martin, recipient (for the third consecutive season) of the Flames Community Service Award presented by the City of Saint John.

With three games remaining in the Flames schedule the Labatt Player of the Year award and Irving Oil Top Scorer award remain undetermined. Matt Lombardi leads Chuck Kobasew in the Labatt Three Star standings by one game star selection while Robert Dome (23g-29a=52pts) leads Jason Morgan (12g-37a=49pts) by only three points in team scoring.

Representatives from the Flames' corporate partners were on hand for the pre-game ceremonies to present the award winners with their trophies and cheques for $500 for their accomplishments.

The winners of the Irving Oil Top Scorer and Labatt Player of the Year awards will be announced Monday.
