
Sound Tigers Win 3-1 In Hartford

HARTFORD, CT - The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, beat the Hartford Wolf Pack 3-1 on the road Saturday.
The Sound Tigers took charge of the game early with a three-goal first period. Martin Chabada opened the scoring with his 17th goal of the season 1:15 into the game on assists from Eric Manlow and Trent Hunter. Mike Souza made it 2-0 with his ninth goal of the year at 9:46 on assists from Blaine Down and Conrad McKay. Jeremy Adduono upped the Sound Tigers' lead to 3-0 1:29 later with his 12th goal of the season on assists from Jeff Hamilton and Daniel Tkaczuk.
There were no penalties called in the first period. The teams then skated through a scoreless second period.
Hartford got on the scoreboard on a redirection goal by Bobby Andrews, his sixth goal of the season, off a shot by Lawrence Nycholat with 7:19 left to play. Kevin Caulfield also assisted on the goal.
Hartford pulled Goaltender Jason LaBarbera in favor of an extra attacker late in the third period but was unable to score. Scott Stirling, who was pulled in the Sound Tigers' 8-0 loss in Hartford last Sunday, made 35 saves for Bridgeport while LaBarbera finished with 33 saves for the Wolf Pack as the shots on goal were tied 36-36. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 4 on the power play while Hartford was 0 for 1. Stirling was the number one star of the game, Chabada number two and Andrews number three.
The Sound Tigers will host Hartford tomorrow in the regular-season finale for both teams at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard at 4:05 p.m. All Sound Tigers' games are broadcast live on "News/Talk 960" WELI-AM and at www.soundtigers.com. WSTC/WNLK 1400/1350 AM also broadcasts road games.
