SAINT JOHN, NB - The Saint John Flames, American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames, recorded 4 goals in the third period for the second night in a row, dropping the Lowell Lock Monsters 7-2.
Saint John gave up the first goal to Lowell forward Troy Ferguson 3:47 into the game. Mike Martin notched his second of the season to tie the game just under 5 mintues later at 8:45. The teams skated into the first intermission tied 1-1.
In the second, Shaun Sutter collected his first of two on the night, converting on a rebound from a Garret Bembridge shot at 4:42. J.F. Boutin gave the Flames a two goal lead at 14:23 of the second redirecting a quick pass from Matt Lombardi behind Lowell netminder Jayme Platt. The Flames would skate off for the second intermission with the two goal advantage.
The third period was all Saint John with nine separate Flames making the scoresheet during the final 20 minutes. Goals came from Mike Mottau, Shaun Sutter, Robert Dome and Martin Sonnenberg. Setting up the four goals were J.F. Boutin, Garret Bembridge, Chuck Kobasew, Jayme Filipowica, and Jason Morgan.
The Flames outshot the Lock Monsters, posting their highest shot total of the season with 52 shots on the game while Lowell directed only 15 at netminder J.F. Damphousse. The Flames power-play unit notched 1 goal on 3 attempts while Lowell failed to convert on two odd-mand advantages.
Flames forward Shaun Sutter (2g-1a=3pts) was named the game's Second Star and J.F. Boutin (1g, 1a) Third Star. The Saint Jon fans were recognized as the First Stars of the game for their suppport throughout the season.
The Flames travel to Portland tomorrow to play the final game of ther tenth AHL regular season against the Pirates. Game time from Portland is 6:00 p.m. Atlantic Time.
