Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Gregorio Petit delivered a two-run double to snap a tie score in the sixth inning, and Jaff Butler had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Tucson Padres to a 6-2 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Friday night at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium.
It was the final game the Topes will play in Tucson, as the franchise will move to El Paso next season.
Isotopes starting pitcher Blake Johnson (3-2) had allowed one run through five innings. But with one out in the sixth, Jonathan Galvez hit a come backer off Johnson's foot for a single. James Darnell hit a comeback to Johnson that was a potential double-play grounder. Johnson's throw to second base was low and Ozzie Martinez couldn't scoop it for the out.
Johnson got the second out of the inning, then Petit delivered the go-ahead double for a 3-1 lead. Rene Rivera, who was 10-for-15 in the series, followed with a bloop single to score another run and make it 4-1.
The Topes got a run back in the seventh when pinch hitter Tony Gwynn, Jr. singled and scored on a Jeremy Moore RBI single. It was Moore's first game since 2011 as he missed last year with a hip injury and was rehabbing the injury at extended spring, before getting activated before the game.
Decker hit a solo homer in the seventh for a 5-2 lead. Decker singled home a run in the eighth for the final margin. Decker also singled home a run in the second inning.
The Topes lost three of four games in the series, falling to 18-17 on the year. Next stop on the Topes road trip is a four-game series in Las Vegas. The first game is Saturday night at 8:05 MT as lefty Aaron Laffey will face 51s starter Zack Wheeler.
