Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City RedHawks threatened late with a three-run homer by Che-Hsuan Lin in the bottom of the ninth inning, but were unable to complete the comeback in a 6-4 loss to the Salt Lake Bees Saturday in front of a crowd of 9,170 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The loss halted the third-longest home winning streak in RedHawks history at 11 games.
Oklahoma City, now 22-13, entered the game with the Pacific Coast League's best record overall and a league-leading 14 home wins.
Saturday opened a four-game series against the Bees (17-20) of the Pacific Conference and kept the RedHawks still searching for their first win against Salt Lake since May 15, 2011. The Bees have now won the last seven meetings with Oklahoma City.
Austin Wates led the RedHawks with three hits. Lin picked up two hits and recorded four RBI.
Matt Young led Salt Lake with three RBI and pitcher Billy Buckner (4-2) threw eight innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out four in the win.
Salt Lake scored first and extended to a 3-0 lead. Matt Long hit a solo home run to right field for the first hit, and run, of the night in the second inning before the Bees added two runs in the fourth. Young reached on a fielder's choice and Efren Navarro scored. Jimmy Swift later hit a RBI single on a line drive to pitcher Ross Seaton.
The RedHawks cut into the Bees' lead in the fifth when Marc Krauss scored on a sacrifice fly by Lin.
Romine added a RBI single for the Bees in the sixth and Young's two-RBI single in the seventh put Salt Lake in front, 6-1.
Lin's first home run of the season scored three and cut the Bees lead to 6-4 with one out in the bottom of the ninth. A double steal by Jonathan Villar and Wates put the tying runs in scoring position with two outs. Brett Wallace walked to load the bases, before Brandon Laird flew out to right field to end the game.
RedHawks pitcher Ross Seaton (0-3) allowed three runs on four hits and struck out one in the loss.
The RedHawks series against Salt Lake continues with a 7:05 p.m. game Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Kids can run the bases after every Sunday home game by lining up along the first base side of the concourse at the conclusion of the game.
