Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox (21-13) came back from a five run deficit to defeat the Omaha Storm Chasers (18-16), 10-7, to win the first game of this four game series in front of a raucous sellout crowd of 8,759 on Fort Carson Appreciation Night.

Omaha started off on a strong note in the first inning when David Lough hit a leadoff double off of starting pitcher Jeff Manship. Christian Colon hit a sacrifice bunt to move Lough to third and then the Storm Chasers strung together four straight hits including two doubles to give them a early four run lead. The Storm Chasers added another run in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by former Sky Sox first baseman Chad Tracy.

Storm Chasers' starting pitcher Chris Dwyer shut down the Sky Sox for four innings and struck out four batters in that span. In the fifth inning, however, Dwyer issued a leadoff walk to Tyler Colvin and then allowed a double to Charlie Culberson. Lars Davis walked to load the bases and Corey Dickerson smacked a bases-clearing triple to bring the Sky Sox within two. The Sox then brought themselves within one when DJ LeMahieu grounded out to the shortstop to plate Dickerson.

A Brett Hayes RBI double in the sixth made the score 6-4, but the Storm Chasers could not hold on to the two-run lead. With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Dickerson hit his second double of the game and scored on a LeMahieu RBI triple. LeMahieu's triple was his fifth of the year and extended his hitting-streak to a Triple-A best of 20 in a row.

Colorado Springs tied the game on the next at-bat when Ryan Wheeler hit an RBI single, and took the lead when Matt McBride launched a two-run shot, his fourth home run in five games, to put the Sky Sox up by two, 8-6.

In the top of the eighth, the Storm Chasers had runners on second and third when Manny Corpas (W, 1-2) threw a wild pitch to score Tracy. Corpas proceeded to strikeout the next two batters to end the inning and preserve the Sky Sox' lead. The Sox added two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning when Dickerson collected his fourth and fifth RBIs of the day on a two-run home run to right field. Dickerson finished the night, 4-for-5 with a homer, a triple and two doubles (11 total bases) to go along with five RBI and three runs scored.

Righty Logan Kensing took the hill in the ninth and worked around a pair of two-out singles by to earn his first save of the year. Blaine Boyer (0-1) took the loss for Omaha after giving up four runs in 1.2 innings of work.

Tomorrow afternoon the Sky Sox will look to take the 2-0 series lead when Tyler Chatwood (2-0, 1.14) takes the mound one start after throwing a complete game shutout. Chatwood will face lefty Ryan Verdugo (1-4, 7.33) starting at 1:35 p.m. on Mother's Day.
