Sacramento River Cats News Release

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Shane Peterson homered and singled to extend his hitting streak to nine games, but the River Cats lost to Memphis on Friday night at AutoZone Park, 10-3.

After a one hour, 57 minute rain delay prior to the start of the game, Memphis dominated the game from the outset. They scored once in the first and two more times in the second to take an early 3-1 lead, but the Cats would cut the lead to 3-2 on a Hiro Nakajima sacrifice fly. But that was as close as Sacramento would get, as Memphis went on to out-hit the Cats, 15-6, on their way to a three-games-to-one series victory.

Travis Banwart (2-1) was the losing pitcher Friday, earning the spot start in place of Jesse Chavez, who was recalled by Oakland earlier in the afternoon. Banwart struck out four and walked two in 3.2 innings, allowing two of Memphis' four home runs.

Michael Wacha (4-0) started and picked up the win for Memphis, holding the Cats to two runs on three hits, striking out five without walking a batter.

Peterson's solo home run in the second inning was the Cats' lone extra-base hit in the game, the second-straight night they have been held to just a single extra-base hit. Jeremy Barfield picked up another hit, and is now 3-for-7 in his brief two-game Triple-A career.

The River Cats head east on Saturday for a four-game set with the Nashville Sounds. Right-hander Sonny Gray (3-1 2.61 ERA) gets the nod for Sacramento in the opener, while Nashville will counter with RHP Tyler Thornburg (0-3, 6.00 ERA). The River Cats return home for an eight-game homestand beginning Thursday, May 16, at 7:05 p.m.
