
Toledo Rebounds with a Big Comeback 4-3 over Kalamazoo

(Kalamazoo, MI) Toledo erased a 3-0 deficit to pick up a 4-3 shootout win Sunday afternoon in Kalamazoo. Toledo is unbeaten in regulation over eight straight games (5-0-3) and has an overall record of 9-5-1-3 while 7-4-1-2 on the road.
Both teams traded chances as part of a scoreless first period with Toledo carrying the shot advantage of 9-8. Kalamazoo didn't waste any time with a goal from David Gilbert just 17 seconds into the second period. The Wings made it 2-0 at 7:36 of the second when a shot deflected off of Walleye defenseman Beau Schmitz and tucked in behind Jeff Lerg.
After the Wings made it 3-0 at 18:02, defenseman Joel Chouinard (2nd) buried a wrist shot just 26 seconds to bring the Walleye within two. At 5:11 of the third period, Shane Berschbach hit Marek Tvrdon with a pass and Tvrdon capped a breakaway for his 8th goal of the season. Toledo tied the game when Michael Leone (2nd) deflected the shot of Richard Nedomlel at 8:45 of the third period.
Toledo out shot Kalamazoo 29-7 over the third period and in overtime. A.J. Jenks scored for the Walleye and goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped all three he faced to secure the win.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 21 of 24 shots and has a record of 6-2-2. Toledo has a season record of 2-0-1 vs. Kalamazoo this season. Chouinard's goal in the second period snapped a goalless draught of 102 minutes and 13 seconds. Toledo finished the game with a Toledo Walleye record 54 shots on goal breaking the old mark of 51 set on March 6, 2010 vs. Charlotte. Walleye Transactions: Prior to today's game, defenseman Richard Nedomlel was reassigned to the Walleye from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL while defenseman Derek Docken was recalled to Grand Rapids. Nedomlel has not appeared in a game for the Griffins this season and has one assist with 14 penalty minutes in 8 games with Toledo. Docken has yet to collect a point in eight games with the Walleye this year.
