Komets Hook Walleye 1-0; Daniels, Nagle Return

Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets gained four points in three games during week seven of 2015-16 and improved to 9-8-0 and 18 points. Entering week eight the Komets hold fourth place in the Midwest Division, trailing first-place Cincinnati by five points.

The Komets began the week with a 3-2 overtime win at Cincinnati Wednesday. Forward Shawn Skelly scored the first goal of the game and his first as a Komet after his call-up from Macon of the SPHL. Garrett Thompson scored his third of the year to give the Komets a 2-1 lead before Cincy knotted the scored at 2-2 and sent the game into the extra frame. Defenseman Cody Corbett scored his first game winner of the season to give the Komets the overtime win. Goaltender Spencer Martin earned his second straight win in his first appearance with the Komets since Nov. 7.

Thursday the Komets and Cyclones returned to Fort Wayne for the back end of the home-and-home series. Cincinnati celebrated their first ever Thanksgiving visit to Fort Wayne with a 5-1 win. The Komets fell to 34-17-4 after 55 traditional home Thanksgiving games. Mike Embach scored the lone Fort Wayne goal while Martin suffered his third loss of the season making 16 saves on 21 shots.

Saturday the Komets shut out the visiting Toledo Walleye 1-0 in overtime. Corbett scored his second overtime game winning goal of the week and of the season. Martin earned his second Fort Wayne shutout of the year, his first two as a pro, stopping all 16 shots faced in his third straight start. The Komets extended their unbeaten streak at home against Toledo to 14 games (12-0-2), counting the 2015 ECHL playoffs. The last time Toledo won on Coliseum ice in regulation was March 27, 2013.

Milestones and streaks-- Mike Embach assisted on Corbett's overtime game winner Saturday. It was Embach's 200th pro point and it extended his home point-scoring streak to five games (3g, 3a). Saturday's overtime victory was the third straight OT win for the Komets, now 3-0 in OT this season. The Komets have not been forced to a shootout yet this season.

For the week-- The Komets were 2-1-0, out-shot their opponents 92-66, were 2/9 on the power play and 7/9 on the penalty kill. Martin appeared in net all three games (187:18), posted a 2.24 goals-against average and stopped 59 of 66 shots for a .894 save percentage and recorded his second pro shutout.

Komet leaders-- Embach leads with seven goals and 15 points.....Thompson and Daniels lead with nine assists.....Daniels leads with +9.....Cody Sol leads with 41 penalty minutes.....Embach and Corbett lead with three power play goals.....Brett Perlini leads with 72 shots.

Daniels, Nagle return-- The Komets announced today that defenseman Drew Daniels and goaltender Pat Nagle have returned from their AHL call-ups. Daniels was called-up to Utica Nov. 11 and appeared in three games (0pts, -1, 4pim). Nagle was called up to Stockton Nov. 24 and did not see any action. In additional player moves, the Komets announced that goalie Alex Vazzano and defenseman Nicholas Kuqali have been placed on waivers.

THE WEEK AHEAD

Komets (9-8-0, 18 points) at Evansville IceMen (5-10-0, 10 points) Friday, 8:15pm ET-- The Komets are idle until they visit intrastate rival Evansville Friday at 8:15pm ET for the only game of the week. It's the first of six meetings this season and the first of three trips to Evansville. The IceMen are 5-10-0 for 10 points and 2-1-0 in their last three outings going into Sunday afternoon's game at Alaska. Evansville will host Missouri Wednesday before facing the Komets at the Ford Center (9,100) Friday night.

TIP-A-KOMET Tuesday at Applebee's-- The Komets invite all fans to the Tip-A-Komet benefit at Applebee's North Clinton location by the Coliseum this Tuesday from 6:30pm-8pm. Fans have a chance to be served dinner by a Komet player as the entire team will be on-hand for the special night at Applebee's. STAR WARS NIGHT NEXT-- The Komets and Preferred Automotive Group present Star Wars Night at the next home game Friday, Dec. 11 at 8pm against intrastate rival Indy Fuel. Fans are invited to celebrate the upcoming release of the film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens at the game. The Komets will wear special Star Wars jerseys which will be auctioned off to benefit Camp Whatcha Wanna Do. Fans can also meet their favorite Star Wars characters and free lightsabers will be given away to the first 1,000 fans. There will also be a Food Drive collecting canned food for the Fort Wayne Food Bank.

Komets play to win for the American Kidney Fund-- Komet forward Mike Embach is looking for CauseMates to help those afflicted with kidney disease. In December the Komets host eight home games and will be accepting pledges for every home game the Komets win during the month. Embach's mother Cindy is affected with stage five kidney disease and the Komets ask for the support of all fans in the fight against kidney disease.
