Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - November 29, 2015 - Cason Hohmann's second straight three-point night and C.J. Motte's 32 saves led the Jackals to a 5-2 victory over the Beast. Scott Jacklin, Colin Jacobs, and Nathan Oystrick also had multi-point games for the Elmira in the big road win.

Justin Bernhardt got the Jackals on the board at the 4:02 mark of the first period with the Jackals fourth power play goal in the last two games. Bernhardt drew the man advantage himself when he was tripped skating through the neutral zone. Nathan Oystrick and Sprio Goulakos picked up assists on Bernhardt's power play tally. Just over six minutes later, the Jackals struck again as Colin Jacobs scored his fifth goal of the season to give the Jackals a 2-0 lead. Scott Jacklin and Cason Hohmann both recorded assists on the goal. C.J. Motte turned aside all 10 shots he faced as the Jackals took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

A mere 42 seconds into the second period, Brampton's red hot power play cut the Jackals lead to 2-1. Luke Pither's fourth goal of the season was assisted by Chris Auger and Jeremie Blain. The Beast rode the momentum from the goal through the midway point of the second period, but C.J. Motte and a timely save by the goalpost kept the Jackals in front. Following a successful penalty kill, Jackals Captain, Nathan Oystrick banked his second goal of the season off the back of Brampton goaltender Sean Bonar, at the 13:12 mark to give the Jackals a 3-1 advantage. Matt Harlow picked up his first point of the season on the goal, an assist, and Colin Jacobs picked up his second helper of the game. As the feistiness picked up, the Jackals maintained their two-goal lead as the second period ended.

The Jackals extended their lead only 3:22 into the third period, as Cason Hohmann scored his team leading eighth goal of the season, deflecting a point shot by Jacob MacDonald, who registered an assist, his fourth point in the last two games. Down by three, the Beast became desperate resorting to pulling the goalie for an extra attacker with over sixteen minutes to play when Elmira took a penalty. Neither team scored on the ensuing 6 on 4 power play, but it was clear that the Beast were searching for any way to get back into the game. Cason Hohmann's second goal of the period removed all doubts as the Jackals increased their lead to 5-1 with just over ten minutes to play in the third period. Hohmann's second marker was the second power play goal of the game for Elmira, and was assisted by Scott Jacklin and Zach Tolkinen. Luke Pither scored his second goal of the game for Brampton with under six minutes to play, but the Beast would get no closer, as C.J. Motte turned in one of his best performances of the season.

C.J. Motte made 32 saves on 34 shots to earn the win for the Jackals, while Sean Bonar allowed five goals on 22 shots and took the loss.
