TULSA, OK - The Missouri Mavericks (17-2-0-1) capped off a perfect 12-0 month of November with a 2-1 regulation win over the Tulsa Oilers on the road at the BOK Center on Wednesday night.
The Mavericks have earned twenty-four points through twelve games in November, furthering their lead in the league standings to thirty-five points, seven points ahead of the second place Florida Everblades. The Mavericks twelve-game win streak is the longest active streak in the ECHL this season.
Missouri's 2-1 victory is the first game against the Oilers this season that has not been decided outside of regulation. (Oct. 30 - 4-3 SOL, Nov. 20 - 5-4 OT)
Sebastien Sylvestre scored his sixth goal of the season and third against the Oilers to open the scoreboard at 2:29 with the help of Andrew Courtney and Rocco Carzo. The Mavericks undoubtedly controlled the first period of play, outshooting the Oilers 10-2 through twenty minutes.
Patrick Cullity was called for interference just one minute into the second frame, and Emerson Clark took full advantage of the Oilers man-advantage to even the scoreboard 1-1 just twenty-two seconds into their opportunity. Dennis Brown and Matt Konan assisted on the power-play goal. Tulsa continues an aggressive stance through the remainder of the period, matching with the Mavericks to hold the game at a stalemate.
It was not until the final five minutes of the game that Mavericks league-leading goal-scorer, Jesse Root, took advantage of a mishandled puck by net-minder Kevin Carr and found the back of the net to edge Missouri into a 2-1 lead over the Tulsa Oilers. Root scored his thirteenth goal of the season with a lone assist from rookie John Schiavo.
Mavericks net-minder, Parker Milner, made twenty-four saves through a full sixty minutes between the pipes for the Mavericks. Milner, currently ranked second amongst top league goaltenders, boasts a 1.55 GAA and a .939 SV% through nine games.
