SERIES SUMMARY: The TinCaps and Hot Rods were postponed by rain on Wednesday night. On Tuesday, Fort Wayne held leads of 2-0, 4-2, and 5-4, but BG scored 3 runs in the top of the 9th to pull out a 7-5 victory.
LET'S PLAY TWO: Both games tonight are scheduled to go 7 innings, per the rules of Minor League Baseball. For fans, tickets are good for both games. Game 2 will start approximately 30 minutes after Game 1 ends.
ROSTER MOVES: Today the Padres released right-handed reliever Jared Carkuff. Righty reliever Diomar Lopez has been added to Fort Wayne's roster from High-A Lake Elsinore. Lopez, a 21-year-old from Nicaragua, spent part of last season with the TinCaps. On Wednesday, the Padres released TinCaps right-handed reliever Will Stillman. Righty Korey Anderson has been added to Fort Wayne's roster from Extended Spring Training.
MILITARY APPRECIATION: On Wednesday, TinCaps players Tirso Ornelas, Juan Fernandez, Jack Suwinski, Jared Carkuff, and Travis Radke visited the 122nd Fighter Wing, a unit of the Indiana Air National Guard in Fort Wayne. The TinCaps will be hosting Military Appreciation Day at Parkview Field on Sunday, June 10 (3:05 pm). Complimentary tickets are available for all veterans and active duty military members as well as their families. Fans can register for those tickets at TinCapsMilitary.com. The deadline to order is next Wednesday, June 6.
SPEED DEMON: Esteury Ruiz has stolen 5 bases over the last 2 days.
WELCOME HOME: Hot Rods pitching coach Brian Reith is from Fort Wayne. After graduating from Concordia Lutheran High School in 1996, he was drafted by the Yankees in 6th round. He was traded from New York to Cincinnati in 2000 and made his MLB debut with the Reds in 2001. As a right-handed pitcher, he appeared in 73 games (9 starts) from '01-04. Reith continued pitching as a pro through '09. He spent the last 3 years coaching Tampa Bay's Short Season-A affiliate (Hudson Valley, New York-Penn League). This is his 1st year coaching on Bowling Green's staff.
BACK HOME, FOR A BIT: After an 8-game road trip, the TinCaps are back for 3. However, following this series, Fort Wayne will play its next 6 on the road (this weekend @ Great Lakes, and after a day off on Monday, 3 @ South Bend). The 'Caps are 14-12 at Parkview Field this season, including wins in 5 of their last 6.
TWICE AS NICE: After going 45 games without a shutout, Fort Wayne has posted 2 shutouts over its last 6 games. The TinCaps blanked West Michigan, 3-0, last Thursday, and did the same at Lansing on Monday.
BULLPEN SUCCESS: The bullpen was key in Sunday's 4-3 win over Lansing with 6 innings of 1-run ball and again on Monday with 4 scoreless frames. Since reliever Evan Miller was added to the 'pen on April 23, the TinCaps relief corps has posted a 3.42 ERA over 32 games. Along with Miller, the bullpen has been led by Travis Radke, Caleb Boushley, Jordan Guerrero, and Ben Sheckler, with only a few changes along the way. Through the first 19 games of the year, the team's bullpen had a 7.47 ERA.
FEELING EXTRA: The TinCaps have 26 extra-base hits over their last 6 games. Fort Wayne matched a season high with 7 extra-base hits on Thursday @ West Michigan and again Saturday night. (The team also tallied 7 XBHs on April 13 @ Bowling Green.) Over the last 6 games, the 'Caps have hit 6 triples, 18 doubles, and 2 home runs.
LEAGUE LEADERS: Jeisson Rosario is 6th in OBP (.419), tied for 6th in walks (34), 6th in runs (34)... Esteury Ruiz is tied for 3rd in SB (16), tied for 11th in triples (3)... Nick Margevicius is 4th in ERA (2.35), 3rd in Ks (59), 1st in SO/9 IP Ratio (11.54), and 2nd in BB-IBB/9 IP Ratio (1.57).
