TinCaps Take Game One, While Game Two Suspended

FORT WAYNE, IN - The Bowling Green Hot Rods and Fort Wayne TinCaps were scheduled to play a double header this evening in Fort Wayne, but were only able to get one game in due to rain. The TinCaps took game one, 5-3, before the rains came in the fourth inning of game two.

In game one, the TinCaps scored four runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a three run home run from LF Jack Suwinski, and it was 4-0 Fort Wayne.

Bowling Green climbed back in it with a three run fourth, highlighted by a two-run single from CF Carl Chester and an RBI base knock from 1B Jim Haley. It was 4-3 Fort Wayne after four.

In the bottom of the sixth, the TinCaps got an insurance run on a home run from SS Justin Lopez, and the final was 5-3.

RHP Alex Valverde (3-2, 4.06) took the loss. He three five-plus innings, allowing seven hits and five runs, one of which was earned. He walked four and struck out three.

In game two, the Hot Rods scored in the top of the first when 2B Vidal Brujan led off with a double, and came around to score three batters later on a Fort Wayne throwing error.

The TinCaps tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on a wild pitch-dropped third strike, and it was 1-1.

The game remained tied after three innings, and before the fourth inning started, the umpires put the game into a delay. The rain delay lasted 52 minutes before the decision was made to stop play tonight.

More information about the completion of tonight's game will be available in the coming days, as Fort Wayne visits Bowling Green from June 12-14.

The Hot Rods return home and begin a three game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps tomorrow night at 6:35pm. Starters for both teams have yet to be announced.
