Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Clinton, IA - The Quad Cities River Bandits committed three errors in the second inning, allowing four unearned runs to score as they dropped the rubber match of a series against the Clinton LumberKings 5-2 on Thursday night at Ashford University Field. Clinton moved a half-game in front of the Bandits atop the Western Division with the win.

The River Bandits struck first by manufacturing a run in the second inning. Jake Adams worked a leadoff walk and then made a good read on a wild pitch and advanced to second. Adams then broke toward third and slid in safely with his first stolen base of the season. Colton Shaver drove him in with a line drive single to center.

Clinton answered back with four unearned runs in the bottom of the same frame. The inning began with a hit by pitch and was followed by an error on third baseman Adrian Tovalin. Dimas Ojeda singled with one out to load the bases. After a strikeout recorded the second out of the inning, Yohan Ramirez walked nine-hitter Billy Cooke to force in the tying run. The next batter, Joseph Rosa, hit a groundball to first base. Adams fielded it, but his flip to Ramirez was too high and rolled to the dugout, allowing two runs to score. Ramirez picked up the ball and tried to throw out Rojas who was running toward second, but his throw sailed high into center field and another run came home. The two errors allowed three runs to score on the play, giving Clinton a 4-1 lead.

Cristian Javier, who was lined up to start Friday night's game, was called into action midway through the second. In the third inning, he served up a solo home run to Ryan Costello that sailed out of the park down the right field line. The entire River Bandits dugout believed that the ball should have been ruled foul.  The long ball, the eighth of the year for Costello extended the LumberKings lead to 5-1.

The Bandits scored one run to move closer in the top of the eighth. Jake Meyers was hit by a pitch to open the frame and raced to third on a single by Jonathan Arauz. With one out, Miguelangel Sierra drove in a run with a groundout to third and the gap was closed to 5-2, but that was as close as the Bandits could get.

Yohan Ramirez, the Bandits starting pitcher, lasted 1.2 innings and allowed four unearned runs on just one hit. He walked two and struck out two as well. Javier came in to work 4.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits, while compiling nine strikeouts.  This was the fourth straight appearance for Javier with at least nine strikeouts. Juan Robles pitched the final 2.0 innings without allowing a run. He scattered three hits and struck out a pair.

The Bandits closed the game with six hits. Arauz (3) and De La Cruz (2) combined for five of the six. Sierra drove in a run for the third straight contest.

The River Bandits (30-24) return home to open a three-game set with the Beloit Snappers (24-27) on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. LHP Parker Mushinski (2-0, 1.86) will get the ball in the opening game of the series as Beloit turns to LHP Ivan Andueza (0-2, 6.20)

All River Bandits games are broadcast on 1170 K-BOB and TuneIn Radio. Home games are also available with video on MiLB.TV.
