Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Tanner Kiest has been activated from the suspended list and RHP Jordan Balazovic has been assigned to Elizabethton. Brian Maloney, Twins Senior Manager of Minor League Operations, announced the move.
The Twins signed Kiest as a non-drafted free agent on December 18, 2017. He pitched for the Eastside Diamond Hoppers of the USPBL last season, posting an 0-1 record and 3.43 ERA in 10 appearances (eight starts). In 42 IP, he allowed 31 hits and 19 runs (16 earned) with 35 walks and 78 strikeouts. He was originally selected by the Phillies in the 28th round of the 2014 First Year Player Draft out of Chaffey College.
Balazovic made one relief appearance for the Kernels, walking three and striking out five over 3.2 IP. He was selected by the Twins in the 5th round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of St. Martin Secondary School in Ontario, Canada.
Kiest is active and scheduled to be the starting pitcher for tonight's 6:35 PM game with Wisconsin. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with six players currently on the DL and one player on the military leave list.
The Kernels wrap up a nine-game, seven-day homestand tonight against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers tonight at 6:35 PM with the gates opening at 5:30 PM.
