Cougars Swept in Double Header

Beloit, Wisconsin - The Kane County Cougars dropped both games of a double header to the Beloit Snappers on Thursday night at Pohlman Field. The Snappers won game one, 2-0, and took game two by the score of 9-2.

In game one, the only scoring came in the third inning. Cougar starter Matt Peacock walked the lead off man, Mickey McDonald. The next batter, Lazaro Armenteros, got hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with no one out. Peacock struck out Austin Beck for the first out. With Hunter Hargrove at the plate, Peacock threw a wild pitch to place runners at second and third. Hargrove followed with a two-run single to make it 2-0 Snappers.

Mitchell Jordan (2-0) made that lead stand, tossing six innings of no-run, one-hit ball to pick up the win. Seth Martinez (5) tossed a 1-2-3 inning to earn his second save of the series. Cougar starter Matt Peacock (2-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on two hits over five innings of work. Yeison Santana provided a scoreless inning of relief.

In game two, the Snappers took a 1-0 lead with an RBI single from Lazaro Armenteros in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second, the Snappers sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight times. Jesus Lopez collected two RBI with a single. Nick Allen recorded an RBI single, so did Armenteros and Logan Farrar, capping the difference-making frame. The Cougars received single tallies in the third and sixth inning. Jancarlos Cintron scored on a wild pitch in the third. Joey Rose doubled home a run in the sixth.

Cole Bartlett (2-1) took the loss, allowing nine runs on nine hits over 1+ innings. Rafael Pujols hurled three innings of shutout ball. Abraham Almonte struck out two batters in two hitless innings. Bryce Conley (2-2) earned the win, surrendering two run runs on four hits over 5.1 innings that included seven punch outs. Nick Highberger hurled the final 1.2 innings, holding the Cougars off the scoreboard.
