Trenton Thunder News Release
Akron, OH - Four Thunder pitchers held the Aeros to just one hit, and Trenton was able to even up the series on Tuesday night, defeating Akron 3-1. With the win, the Thunder improve to 52-32 on the season.
Both teams were able to each get just one hit off their opposing pitchers, but Akron jumped on the board first in the bottom of the fifth inning off LHP Wilkin de la Rosa. The left-hander walked the bases loaded with one out before being lifted for Cory Arbiso (1-1). Lonnie Chisenhall hit into a fielder's choice to bring in Damaso Espino from third base and give Akron the 1-0 lead.
Trenton quickly tied it up in the top of the sixth inning, as Edwar Gonzalez hit a solo home run down the right field line off LHP Scott Barnes (4-8) to tie the game at one. The Thunder went ahead in the top of the seventh inning, as Jack Rye hit a bases loaded, two-run single with two outs, scoring Brandon Laird and Daniel Brewer to push Trenton ahead 3-1.
In his sixth straight start, de la Rosa allowed just one run on one hit, but walked five in 4 1/3 innings of work. He now has a 3.46 ERA in seven starts this season.
Cory Arbiso, Wilkins Arias and Ryan Pope combined to throw 4 2/3 innings, and did not allow a hit or give up a walk. Arias and Pope pitched in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. Pope set down the side in order to pick up his third save of the year.
Trenton and Akron will play the third game of their four game set on Wednesday evening starting at 7:05 PM. RHP Lance Pendleton starts for Trenton, while Akron will give the ball to LHP Eric Berger.
