New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
The Toronto Blue Jays, parent club of the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, announced Tuesday that outfielder Travis Snider will be making a rehabilitation start for the Fisher Cats at Hadlock Field in Portland to take on the Sea Dogs at 7:00 p.m.
"We welcome Travis back to our team," President/General Manager Rick Brenner said. "He was a very popular player with the Fisher Cats, and we wish him the best of luck on his road to recovery."
Snider, 22, played in 98 games for New Hampshire in 2008, batting .262 with 17 home runs and 67 RBI. The Toronto Blue Jays first-round pick (14th overall) in the 2006 amateur draft, made his Major League debut on August 29, 2008, becoming the youngest position player on any MLB team at the time.
The Henry M. Jackson High School alum finished out the 2008 season for Toronto, hitting .301 with two home runs and 13 RBI in only 73 at bats. In 2009, Snider saw action in 77 games for the big league club, putting up a .241 mark with nine round-trippers and 29 RBI.
Snider is batting .241 through 33 games for the Blue Jays in 2010, recording six home runs and 15 RBI through 33 games. The natural lefty was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right wrist on May, 17 (retroactive to May 15). Since then, Snider has made appearances for both the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays, as well as for the Dunedin Blue Jays, Toronto's Advanced-A affiliate. In his five starts since June 30, Snider has split time between right field and designated hitter, going 2 for 17 with one RBI.
The Fisher Cats will continue their road trip Tuesday with their second of four games against the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:45 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
The Fisher Cats return to Manchester to open a four-game series against the Binghamton Mets on Thursday, July 15. An Atlas Fireworks Show follows the game. The Portland Sea Dogs will also be playing at Merchantsauto.com Stadium from July 19-21. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
