Swedish Blueliner Joins Condors
December 10, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Looking for a little insurance on the blueline, the Bakersfield Condors have acquired Swedish defenseman Likit Andersson from the Reading Royals for future considerations.
The 31-year old blueliner, born in Thailand, is a veteran of over 200 games in the ECHL and International Hockey League and almost 500 games in his overall career, including European matches. The majority of his time overseas was spent in the Swedish First Division, whose games do not count toward ECHL veteran status. Andersson played in 15 ECHL contests last season with the Greensboro Generals, who ceased operations at the end of the year, and recorded 3g-2a-5pts and was +5.
His best season in North America came in 2000-01, when he finished second among Augusta Lynx defensemen with 44 points and was second on the team with a +12. He competed in the 2001 ECHL All- Star Game. He will not play tonight when the Condors are in Fresno for a 7:00 p.m. start.
"We needed a little more offense from our defenseman," said Head Coach Marty Raymond. "We also needed a little more depth and Likit will give us both."
The Condors are on the road tonight but return home to host the Greenville Grrrowl at 7:00 p.m. at Centennial Garden. The first 2,000 children 12 and under will receive a Condors backpack, courtesy of KGET-TV 17 and Subway. In addition, the Condors are teaming up with R&D Leather Furniture for the Stay Focused Ministries Toy Drive. Fans can get a terrace ticket for just $1 by donating a new, unwrapped toy. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
Fans, don't forget to mark your calendars for Saturday, December 18th for your chance to be in the Guinness Book of World Records when the Condors battle the Idaho Steelheads as WB-12 & the Big 96.5 host the World Largest Pillow Fight. Bring a pillow to the game and at the start of the 1st intermission prepare to battle your neighbors in the seats next to you. The pillows will then be collected and donated to the Bakersfield Homeless Shelter and other local charities.
It's not too late to secure premium seat locations for 2004-2005 Condors season by purchasing a Condors Mini-plan. Also, what better place to have a Christmas party than at a Condors game? The Condors offer group discounts for fans that plan on attending a Condors game with friends, family, or co- workers. Contact the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825) for more information.
