
Gators fall in shoot out

Columbia, SC - In a battle of two red-hot goaltenders Mike Minard outdueled rookie Nathan Marsters as the Columbia Inferno defeated the Louisiana IceGators 2-1 in a shoot out Friday night.
The IceGators took a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of play as David Bararuk lit the lamp for his 6th of the season at 12:40 of the period. Bararuk won a face off deep in Inferno territory, Randy Dagenais' slap shot from the right point went wide but bounced off the back dasher into the slot where Bararuk slid it past Mike Minard for the early one goal advantage.
After a scoreless 2nd period, the Inferno tied the game on a power play goal at 3:31 of the 3rd period as locked out Buffalo Sabre, Eric Boulton beat Nathan Marsters with a 40 foot slap shot to tie the game. Trevor Demmans and Derek Eastman assisted on Boulton's 1st of the season. The two teams could not dent the net the rest of the period or in OT as the contest was decided in a shootout. Minard stopped all 4 Gators attempts, while Walker McDonald and D'Arcy McConvey scored giving Columbia the 2-1 win. For the Game, Marsters stopped 31 of 32 Inferno shots, Minard was 21 of 22 in net for Columbia. The Gators were 0-5 on the power play, the Inferno 1-4.
The road trip will end Saturday night in Florence, SC, as the Gators visit the PeeDee Pride at 6:35pm CST. The game will be available on 960AM "The Gator" and on the internet at www.icegators.com.
The IceGators return home to the Frozen Swamp on Tuesday night December 14th to face the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05pm.
