SAN DIEGO â The San Diego Gulls announced Friday that goaltender Mathieu Chouinard has been loaned to the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. To fill San Diego's vacant goaltending position, Cincinnati in return assigned Eddy Ferhi.
Chouinard, 24, has appeared in five games for the Gulls this season, posting a 1-3-0 record with a 2.59 goals-against average and .912 save percentage.
He signed with San Diego last summer after spending the majority of last season playing with the AHL's Manchester Monarchs. He also played three games for the ECHL's Reading Royals and appeared in one game for the NHL's Los Angeles Kings last season.
The 6-foot-1-inch, 211-pound native of Laval, Quebec was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He re-entered the draft in 2000 and was Ottawa's second round pick. Chouinard is 54-31-3 in his professional career with a 2.41 GAA and .908 save percentage.
Ferhi, 25, was also assigned to the Gulls from Cincinnati last season. In his brief stint with San Diego, he was 1-0-2 with a 3.10 GAA and .901 save percentage. Before turning pro, the 6-foot-3-inch, 197-pound native of Charenton, France spent four seasons at Sacred Heart University. During his stint at Sacred Heart University, Ferhi set school records for career GAA and single-season GAA. He also tied a school record with career wins and games played in a season.
Ferhi is yet to play in a game this season.
