Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
AUGUSTA, GA â Mark Mullen scored a pair of goals, and Nick Boucher made 34 saves for his second consecutive road shutout, as the Pee Dee Pride (13-6-2) defeated the Augusta Lynx 3-0 Friday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. Chad Spurr gave the Pride a 1-0 lead just 4:20 into the contest. Gregg Johnson dumped the puck into the Lynx end, and it was tracked down by Kevin Cooper in the far corner. Spurr, stationed in front of Lynx netminder Jason Saal, got enough of his stick on the puck to get it past Saal for his fourth goal of the season. The Pride doubled their lead with just 46 seconds remaining in the first period. After Saal made a couple of nice saves, Brian Collins gathered in a loose puck, and found Mullen open on the near post with a perfect back-door pass. Mullen was able to slide the puck past Saal for his eighth tally of the season. Augusta's Todd Bennett was awarded a penalty shot 5:44 into the second period, but Boucher stopped the attempt to keep the score 2-0. Mullen gave the Pride a little more breathing room with his second goal of the night 2:58 into the third period. Mullen and Greeley came across the Lynx line 2-on-1. Skating across the Lynx line on a 2-on-1, Mullen used Greeley on the left wing side as a decoy and then blasted a wrist shot past Saal to make it 3-0. The Pride went the entire game without having a penalty called against them, the first time that has happened since March 30, 2003, also at Augusta. Pee Dee returns home on Saturday, hosting the Louisiana IceGators at 7:30. The first 1,000 fans in attendance receive a free coozie from Micky Finn's. It's also the Pride's annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring a new, plush toy with them to the game, and throw it on the ice after the Pride score their first goal. The toys will be donated to Florence County EMS and Florence County Sheriff's Office. Tickets for all Pride home games are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
