Back In The Face-Off Circle Against Kids Cancer
December 10, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. â The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the New York Islanders, will unveil their second annual "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" program following Saturday's home game against Johnstown.
15 children from New Jersey, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware who suffer from early stages of pediatric cancer will be introduced to the Bullies in special post-game locker room visit after the game, and partake in four additional social events in January and February as a means of developing a friendship with each of the players. Other events include a "Sunday Sundae Social" on Sunday, January 9 at the Egg Harbor City Volunteer Ambulance Facility, and a trip to the South Jersey Children's Museum on Sunday, January 16.
"This is a program that the organization is very proud to host once again," said Bullies Vice President and General Manager Dan Belisle. "To see the smiles on the faces of the kids, their families, and especially our players last year after each event was just a remarkable sight. I believe that it is the responsibility of professional athletes to help enrich the lives of those in their community, and we hope that this program achieves that."
"Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will culminate on Friday, January 28 and Sunday, January 30 when the Bullies take the ice wearing special commemorative jerseys dedicated to each child. The jerseys will then be auctioned off with the proceeds benefitting Caps For Kids, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing hats signed by athletes and entertainers to kids who lose their hair due to chemotherapy treatments of cancer, Alfred I. duPont Hospital For Children in Wilmington, Delaware, and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Originated by the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL during the 2002-03 season, the Bullies first "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" last year raised more than $6,000
The Bullies battle the Wheeling Nailers at 7:30PM tonight from WesBanco Arena in Wheeling. Catch all the action live beginning with "Bullies Countdown" at 7:10PM on ESPN Radio 1450AM.
Atlantic City returns to Historic Boardwalk Hall at 7:05PM tomorrow when they host the Johnstown Chiefs for the annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by Lite Rock 96.9 and Cat Country 107.3. Bring a new or used teddy bear in good condition to help needy children in Atlantic City this holiday season, and toss it on the ice when the Bullies score their first goal. Every Saturday home game is "Family Night". Purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas for just $44. For more information or to order tickets, call (609) 348-PUCK.
