Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (12-10-0) had their six-game winning streak snapped Friday night at Germain Arena when they fell 2-1 to the South Carolina Stingrays (10-11-1) in the first of a five-game home stand.
After a scoreless first period, the Everblades opened the scoring just 2:25 into the second period when Brad Church one-timed a shot past Stingrays goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck for a 1-0 lead. South Carolina answered back at 5:34 of the middle period on Carlyle Lewis' first goal of the season when he lifted a shot over 'Blades goalie Craig Kowalski's left arm. The game remained tied at one until the late stages of the second period when the Stingrays collected the eventual game-winning goal by Rich Peverley at 13:51.
Despite out shooting the Stingrays 17-4 in the third period, the Everblades couldn't find the tying goal, allowing South Carolina to win their second straight.
Kowalski suffered the tough-luck loss despite turning away 21 South Carolina shots, bringing his record to 8-5-0. Daubenspeck earned the win by stopping 34 of 35 Florida shots, raising his record to 6-8-1. Florida finished the night 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Stingrays failed to convert on three power play opportunities.
Florida continues their five-game home stand on Saturday, December 11 at Germain Arena, when they take on the South Carolina Stingrays for the second and final time on home ice. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Tomorrow night is the Everblades annual "Teddy Bear Toss", all fans in attendance are asked to bring a plush toy with them to the game, and toss it on the ice when the 'Blades score their first goal of the night. All teddy bears collected will benefit less fortunate children in the Southwest Florida area.
