INDIANAPOLIS - Jack Suwinski went yard twice, his second to give Indianapolis a lead in the seventh and cap off a five-run comeback effort, but the St. Paul Saints prevailed to retake the lead and defeat the Indians in 10 innings on Tuesday night, 9-8.
With the Indians (41-47) leading following a four-run seventh inning, St. Paul tied the game on an RBI single in the eighth. A scoreless ninth inning pushed the game into extras where Mark Contreras plated the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly off Austin Brice (L, 2-3). Indianapolis stranded the tying run on third base with just one out in the bottom of the 10th against Ian Hamilton (W, 2-3).
After the first half of the game was dominated by the Saints (42-46), who took a 7-2 lead on a five-run third inning and Jermaine Palacios grand slam, the scales gradually tipped back in the Indians' favor. Consecutive run-scoring innings in the fifth and sixth, the latter plated on Suwinski's first home run of the evening, inched the Indians closer to St. Paul's lead.
Three extra-base hits in the seventh then gave the Indians their first lead since the first inning. After Carter Bins was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, Hoy Park doubled him home on a line drive to center field. Two batters later, Ji-Hwan Bae roped a double into left field to bring Indianapolis within one run. With two outs, Suwinski belted a line drive over the right-center field wall for his second longball of the contest.
The game was Suwinski's fifth career multi-homer game and his second this season after launching three on June 19, 2022 with Pittsburgh vs. San Francisco. He led the team with three RBI, while Bae led the offense with three hits.
The Indians and Saints will continue their three-game series tomorrow at 7:05 PM ET. RHP Miguel Yajure (2-2, 8.22) will take the mound for Indianapolis against RHP Jordan Balazovic (0-1, 10.13).
