Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

MOOSIC, PA - The New York Yankees have announced that catcher Ben Rortvedt will join the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders today on a Major League rehab assignment. Rortvedt's rehab assignment is being transferred from Hudson Valley, where he appeared in four games prior to the MLB All-Star break. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre opens a three-game weekend set in Lehigh Valley at 7:05 P.M. tonight.

The Yankees acquired Rortvedt on March 13 along with Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa in exchange for Gary Sánchez and Gio Urshela.

Rortvedt, 24, was dealing with an oblique strain when the deal was finalized and was placed on the 10-Day Injured List on April 7. He began a rehab assignment on May 7 with Tampa, but that was halted after two games. Rortvedt underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and was placed on the 60-Day Injured List on May 22.

He has not appeared in a Major League game for New York since the trade.

Rortvedt is the sixth Yankees player to rehab with the RailRiders this season, joining Aroldis Chapman, Domingo Germán, Jonathan Loáisiga, Tim Locastro and Ron Marinaccio.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is on the road at Lehigh Valley through Sunday before embarking to Rochester or a series July 26-31. The RailRiders return home on August 2 for a two-series stay against the Buffalo Bisons and Worcester Red Sox. For tickets or information on upcoming promotions, visit www.swbrailriders.com.
