
Redbirds Lose First Game After All-Star Break to Stripers

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds dropped the opener of a three-game series with the Gwinnett Stripers at AutoZone Park on Friday night by the final score of 7-6.
Memphis got things started with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Catcher Ivan Herrera drove in his 21st run of the season with a double down the right field line to score right fielder Conner Capel. Two batters later, second baseman Evan Mendoza brought home first baseman Luken Baker with a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0.
After MLB Rehabbing designated hitter Harrison Bader walked and scored on a Baker sacrifice fly in the third, the Redbirds found power in the fourth inning. Third baseman Cory Spangenberg led of the frame with his 10th homer of the year, which was quickly followed by center fielder Ben DeLuzio's ninth home run of the season. The home run matches the career total entering the season for the center fielder.
Gwinnett would roar back, scoring seven runs between the fifth, sixth and eighth innings to take a 7-6 lead. Ryan Loutos (0-3) was credited with the loss after allowing three runs on four hits in the eighth inning.
The Memphis Redbirds (50-41) returns to AutoZone Park on Saturday night against the Gwinnett Stripers (45-46) for a scheduled 6:35 p.m. CDT first pitch..
