Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
ALLENTOWN, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 5-1 on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park. Oswaldo Cabrera and Miguel Andújar homered to back Hayden Wesneski as the RailRiders started the second half with a win.
Wesneski and Lehigh Valley starter Michael Plassmeyer matched zeroes over first three innings before Cabrera opened the scoring with a solo home run to leadoff the fourth. The RailRiders infielder drilled 1-2 pitch from Plassmeyer over the left field wall for a 1-0 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead.
The RailRiders tagged the IronPigs starter for four more in the top of the fifth. Tyler Wade walked and scored on a single from Oswald Peraza. Cabrera followed with a double to drive in Peraza and Andújar capped the inning with a two-run blast to left for a 5-0 lead.
The IronPigs broke up Wesneski's lengthy scoreless inning streak with a solo home run by Scott Kingery in the bottom of the fifth, snapping a string of 21 consecutive scoreless frames for the 24-year-old right-hander.
Wesneski (6-7) notched the victory, allowing just the lone run on five hits over 5.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts. Jose Mujica, Braden Bristo and Greg Weissert combined to blank Lehigh Valley on two hits and two walks over the final 3.1 innings. Plassmeyer (2-1) took the loss after allowing all five runs over 4.1 innings.
Cabrera and Josh Breaux had two hits apiece as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre gained a game on Lehigh Valley, Durham and Jacksonville. The RailRiders are now four games back and one game under .500.
The RailRiders and IronPigs continue this three-game set on Saturday evening at 6:35 P.M. Matt Krook gets the ball for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre against Lehigh Valley's Cristopher Sanchez.
